Sergey Pavlovich Mironov – MD, professor, honorary science worker of Russian Federation, honorary doctor of Russian Federation, Academician of Russian Academy of Science.

After graduation from public health and hygiene faculty of the First Moscow medical institute named after I.M.Sechenov in April of 1973 started working in Central institute of traumatology and orthopaedics named after N.N.Priorov. Worked as surgeon, junior research fellow, head of the clinic. In 1979 defended a candidate’s thesis on “Operative treatment of posttraumatic stiffness and ankyloses of elbow joint in children” and in 1984 defended a doctor’s thesis on “Posttraumatic deformities and large joints stiffness in children and adolescents and their treatment”. In 1983 became the head of the clinic of sports and ballet trauma at the Central institute of traumatology and orthopaedics.

Principal areas of research:

arthroscopic repair of injured joints’ function;

optimized application of external fixators;

implementation of minimally invasive arthroscopic and cold plasma ablation procedures;

development of perspective implants for large joints replacement;

implementation of new treatment methods for spine injuries (including spinal cord injury) using microsurgery, cellular technologies and neurovascular grafts.

Prof.Mironov is the author of more than 500 publications including 26 monographs and 20 patents for inventions, 14 candidate’s and 13 doctor’s theses were defended under his guidance.

Prof.Mironov is the head of faculty for traumatology and orthopaedics at department of fundamental medicine of Moscow State university named after M.V.Lomonosov and faculty for postgraduate study of the First Moscow state medical university named after I.M.Sechenov.

Prof.Mironov is the President of the Russian Association of trauma and orthopaedic surgeons, chairman of the Russian arthroscopic society, member of SICOT (International society of orthopaedic surgery and traumatology), editor-in-chief of the journal “Bulletin of trauma and orthopaedics named after N.N.Priorov”.
