Vagram Vaganovich Agadzhanyan was born in Yerevan in the family of physicians. In 1972 graduated from Kemerovo state medical institute. Until 1989 worked as trauma and orthopaedic surgeon of Regional traumatology hospital of Prokopievsk. In 1989 was elected deputy director for science of Kuzbass Research institute of traumatology and rehabilitation of Prokopievsk. In 1979 defended a candidate’s thesis and in 1988 a doctor’s thesis.
As of 1993 Dr.Agadzhanyan leads the Regional clinical center for miners’ healthcare. Currently it’s a large multidisciplinary specialized medical, research and educational institution in Kuzbass region.
Fundamental research of Dr.Agadzhanyan is dedicated to development of trauma disease in patients with polytrauma including elaboration of medical care system, efficient diagnostics methods, treatment and rehabilitation.
Integral organizational, diagnostics and treatment healthcare system proposed and implemented in Kuzbass for polytrauma allowed to obtain positive functional outcomes in 90% of cases, decrease hospital stay by 39%, achieved twofold decrease of mortality, decrease primary disablement by 20% and adverse risks by 10%.
Results of Dr.Agadzhanyan’s work greatly influenced the formation and development of scientific and research activity in Kuzbass. He founded a school of Siberian trauma and orthopaedic surgeons, 9 doctor’s and 39 candidates’s theses were defended under his guidance.
Dr.Agadzhanyan is the author of more than 850 publications including 5 monographs, two guidance manuals for teachers at medical institutions, more than 450 articles including 80 published in foreign periodicals. Besides, he is the author of 30 patents of Russian Federation. Dr.Agadzhanyan is the member of dissertation council D-084.43.01 in “traumatology and orthopaedics” speciality at Novosibirsk Research institute of traumatology and orthopaedics, a member of editorial boards of research-practical journals “Traumatology and orthopaedics in Russia”, “Spine surgery”, “Kuzbass medicine”, editor-in-chief of “Polytrauma” journal established upon his initiation (2005).
Dr.Agadzhanyan heads the faculty of “Integrative traumatology” at postgraduate faculty of Kemerovo State medical academy of Russian Health Ministry, is actively involved into community work popularizing current progress of medicine in mass media, among workers associations of Kuzbass and at scientific and public forums.
